This document lists all border posts in Mozambique which issue visas on arrival. We will be adding the ones that are not yet equipped to issue visas soon. Citizens from SADC Member States do not need a visa to visit Mozambique for 30 days or less. Other travelers may require documentation to prove that they are visiting Mozambique for leisure or tourism purposes (return ticket, accommodation booking confirmation or invitation letter). If you are planning to travel to Mozambique for any other reason, you may need to get a visa from a Mozambique Embassy in your country. Visas on arrival cost 2,000 MZN (approximately $33 United States Dollars at the time of writing). If you are travelling through a border post that may not issue visas on arrival, check with a Mozambique Embassy in your country or a neighboring country to get one before you travel.

For more information about border posts and their ability to issue visas, please read this announcement.

Please also note that during peak holiday season the border posts can become extremely busy and as a result long queues develop. Plan your journey accordingly. Please make sure that you have the correct documentation for your vehicle and all members of your party to get through the border. Check our guidelines on Preparing to Travel to Mozambique and Vehicle Requirements to find out what documentation you need.

Ensure that you have unabridged birth certificates for children (full birth certificates that list both parents). If one or both of the parents and/or legal guardians are not travelling with the children you will need death certificates or affidavits from the parents or legal guardians authorizing the child to cross the border. This needs to be signed by the respective parent(s) and certified by the police in your country.

After going through immigration, check that your passport has been stamped with the correct date. There have been cases where passports were deliberately not stamped, resulting in legal issues. Vehicles and various other items require a Temporary Import Permit (check Traveller Allowances to see which items need to be included on the Import Permits). Do not lose these import permits as they may be checked by officials inside Mozambique and again when you leave.

Regardless of your vehicle's current insurance plan (even if it covers Mozambique), you are still required to purchase Mozambican 3rd Party Insurance for your vehicle and trailer. This can be purchased online beforehand to prevent additional queues and hassles at the border.

Entering Mozambique is free. No money should be paid at the border (except for 3rd Party Insurance if you are buying it at the border, and except if you are importing goods that exceed the value of the duty free allowance). Check Traveller Allowances for more information. Mozambique.co.mz recommends that you keep receipts for groceries and other items that you bring into Mozambique, especially if you are unsure about whether duty needs to be paid or not. Do not exceed your alcohol allowance and remember that beer cannot be imported in Mozambique duty free and therefore should be declared with duty paid.

Before you travel to Mozambique, take a look at these Preparing to Travel to Mozambique guidelines.
